HOD: Mrs G Kirman
All year 9 and 10 students will study social studies. The subject is about people and how and why in different
contexts they think, feel and act. It is also about how they organise their way of life, interact with others and their
environment; initiate and respond to change; and how they meet their political, social, economic, legal and spiritual needs.
Year 9 Social Studies (9SOS)
You will learn about current issues; about your role and the role of others in our community and beyond; how the
world has become more linked through the interactions of people; how decisions made by governments and leaders
in the past and present affect ways of life; and how economic decisions impact on people and places.
Year 10 Social Studies (10SOS)
You will learn about the risks the world presents to its inhabitants and how these can be managed; how New Zealand’s
history influenced and continues to influence the way we think and act; and how the New Zealand economy is part
and parcel of a larger global economy, as well as becoming involved in a hands-on practical production of products
for sale at a Trade Fair.
