Classical Studies is about interpreting the people, places, and events of the classical world, and their relevance to
the present. Classical Studies explores the literature, art, and architecture, history and the philosophy of ancient
Greece and Rome.

You will learn to:
• examine ideas and values through the study of Greek tragedy
• examine the significance of the art and architecture of Pompeii and Herculaneum
• examine the eruption of Mount Vesuvius
• develop an understanding of Roman socio-political life
• develop an understanding of either Greek science or architecture on other cultures

Prerequisites: 12 credits in history or English at level 1

Due to changes currently being made to level 2 standards by NZQA, there may be some minor changes to this
course in 2012.
