HOD: Mr S Crosby
The courses outlined below are designed for those students who do not use English as their first language. The aim is to enable students to live and study in Aotearoa New Zealand. All students who use English as an additional
language will be tested and placed in appropriate classes.
Reception
The course is for newly arrived students to prepare them to integrate linguistically and emotionally into Pakuranga
College. You will learn to read, write, talk and listen to English in a supportive environment. Students will be
assessed using the English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP).
Junior Classes
This course is designed to meet the English language learning needs of a group of year 9 and 10 ESOL students who
are close to, but not yet ready for mainstream English. The course is designed to ensure that the students develop
familiarity with the topics, text and task types they will encounter in mainstream English classrooms. Students will
be assessed using the English Language Learning Progressions (ELLP).
