PAKURANGA Rotary Club’s annual awards night celebrates and congratulates outstanding individuals who have delivered high levels of performance and made a significant contribution to their community or vocation.

Club president Peter Roylance says the guiding principle for the prize-giving was the pride exhibited and personal integrity and responsibility each recipient exercised. He presented the five successful awardees with wall plaques at the event on April 14.

Denise Berry, dean of overseas students at Pakuranga College, was awarded for vocational excellence.

“In 1993, as head of counselling at the college, Denise was involved with Pakuranga Rotary’s exchange students and others on a year-long international youth exchange, plus the Australia/New Zealand youth exchange.

“In 1996, when the college decided to take fee-paying international students, Denise became the director. Initially there were 10 students and this year she’s responsible for 103 fee-paying students of 15 nationalities. Her three exchange students include two from Rotary.”
